Dakota Johnson Needs 14 Hours of Sleep and Loves to Take Baths in the Middle of the Day

Dakota Johnson isn’t just hair goals with her enviable set of bangs, her latest interview for WSJ. Magazine‘s My Monday Mornings just proved that she’s setting the standard for self-care, too. In her chat with WSJ.’s Lane Florsheim, the actress, producer, and wellness company co-creative director explained that she needs at least 10 hours of sleep per night and can “easily” rack up to 14 if everything is just right.

“I’m not functional if I get less than 10,” she said of her sleep habits. “I can easily go 14 hours.”

Johnson dropped a few more details about her sleep hygiene, saying that she doesn’t use an alarm clock and doesn’t prioritize waking up at any certain time or keeping a regular schedule.

“I don’t have a regular [wake-up] time. It depends on what’s happening in my life,” she said “If I’m not working, if I have a day off on a Monday, then I will sleep as long as I can. Sleep is my number one priority in life.”

Aside from those impressive self-care stats, Johnson added a few more staggering bombshells for anyone who has a busy schedule. Between press obligations, attending big-time events, and making movies, she finds the time to meditate and treat herself to baths — completely clearing her itinerary if she feels the need to take a dip.

“I meditate every day, twice a day. I do transcendental meditation. I’ve been really into breathwork recently and that’s been helping me a lot with anxiety,” she said. “I will get in a bathtub at any moment, any time of the day. If in the middle of the day, I’m like, ‘Oh God, what is this world?’ I’ll get in the bathtub. I find water really grounding.”

Ahead of the winter holidays, Johnson also explained that she and her family are taking things easy and not planning anything major — and that’s how it’s always been. So, not only is she giving fans the permission to sleep in, she’s all for having a stress-free holiday.

“My family doesn’t really have holiday traditions. We’re kind of free-flowing in that department. We’re all very good at not applying stress to each other to show up or behave in a certain way, which I think is really nice,” she explained. “The holidays are stressful and especially with the world and the state that it’s in, just being quiet and spending time with people you love and make you feel good is better than forcing traditions that feel stressful.”
